How AI Affects Gaming
AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is becoming widespread throughout the world at a rapid rate. However, this is at the same time rapidly increasing prices on key components for gaming software, such as GPU, and most noticeably RAM. VRAM is also affected by this, but not as much, and it still affects gaming
Two freshmen were interviewed about this; both of them are PC players, because PC is the most largely affected by the increases on these two component prices. The two freshmen are Asher and Zachary.
AI is increasing the prices of these things, but could demand be a part to blame as well? “Yeah, the prices are increasing because the data servers need loads and loads of RAM,” Said Zachary.
Does this make it difficult for building PC’s? “This does not affect me yet; however, this will eventually because if I want to upgrade my PC, which I would need RAM for, it will be more difficult and expensive because of AI. I remember before AI, I bought my RAM for around forty bucks,” Said Zachary.
Ram has increased in price a lot, but by how much? “Now, RAM is 400 dollars for the same amount of RAM. RAM has had a price increase of 10 times since we got it.” Says Asher.
Ram is a key component for a PC, “Data center, that’s where all the data collection takes place.” Said Asher.
GPU has also increased in prices, but what is a GPU? “A GPU is essentially for a gaming computer, one of the most important and yet one of the most expensive components in your computer. That is because the GPU is all of your graphics.” Said Asher.
Does the GPU get affected by other things, too, and how does AI affect this? “It also has something to do with the reframe rate, and your screen as well goes with all of that. So if you don’t have a good GPU for gaming, you wont be able to play many modern games. This is even affected by AI because the GPU is used to make the graphics in AI-generated images and videos, so that’s how the GPU gets affected by AI’s increasing popularity.” Said Asher and Zachary.
How does VRAM get affected by the AI? “ALL the GPU is coming out with lower VRAM nowadays when we should be getting way more. All the VRAM is being sold to AI companies. That is why all of the new GPUs that are coming out with has below average VRAM.” Said Zachary.
AI gets affected by other parts too, “All the internals I think, other than the fans because they take water cooling.” Said Asher.
AI, or artificial intelligance affects gaming in so many ways, but it is mostly involved in the specs. The internals of consoles and PCs are more expensive now because of AI. This therefore increases the total prices of things and makes things worse, like the GPU situation. AI is making gaming much more expensive and worse for the users.
