Working to get music learned is super difficult. It requires long, hard practice. Our school is fortunate enough to be able to go to Disney as a Fine Arts Department. While this is a fun privilege, it still takes so much effort to prepare. We have to learn 4-5 whole songs to sing. We sing at Disney Springs for a competition, and we will be getting scored. This process isn’t always the most fun, but it is very rewarding.
Practices are long and happen during and outside of school hours. We go over and over the same parts of music until we finally get it right. We have choreographers in high school named Aria Philbrick and Abbie Lueking. Aria told me, “Choreographing the dances has actually been so fun, because we just get to add a little something extra to the music.” I love seeing how much effort my peers put into all of our performances, even when we all have so many other things going on.
“Trying to find time to make dances, learn the music, while also going to dance and musical rehearsal is very difficult,” said Abbie. I found this very interesting, considering I only do Madrigals. So many kids who sing do multiple other extracurricular activities, but still take the time to show up and prove that they are committed. The preparation can be very stressful and demanding, but I know that as soon as we get to Disney, it will all be worth it, and I’m so excited to have this opportunity.
