Effects/Contributors of a Game’s Atmosphere
The atmosphere that accompanies a game is a very important thing when it comes to a sports game. It makes the spectators either stay or leave, even if the game is good. The atmosphere matters so much, and that’s why it needs to be a good atmosphere. At the same time, it needs to be controlled; it can be overwhelming if it is a bit too much at once. As well as it can also affect residential areas if things get too much.
In the Stands
During a Football game, everything can get pretty out of hand. So I asked a local student who attends Rochester High School, Mason Dye, who goes to quite a bit of the home football games.

Pregame hype is a good sign that people like the games, but does Rochester High School have it? “I think it’s definitely there; the student section is very loud. Like the weeks or days leading up to the games, people talk about it a lot,” Says Mason.
“The lights could be bright and unnecessary with all the flashing colors. I think it’s just distracting. Too much going on all at once, combined with everything else,” Said Mason, after experiencing the game lights in question.
Noise is bound to come with a Football game, but can it be too much? “At times, yeah. I think mainly because of the student section and the music that they play. The music is really loud,” Mason said.
External factors also go into it, like the weather. “It really depends on the weather because, if it’s really, really cold, I probably wouldn’t go. If it’s really hot, I also would go, but like, enjoy it less than if it was like good weather,” Mason said.
Games can definitely be all these things: loud, bright, distracting, and crowding. If it’s all controlled to a manageable level, then it makes the game atmosphere better and the game itself better to watch.
Residential Area
Football games can affect surrounding areas, such as residential areas. There are many neighborhoods near the school. A nearby resident, Lindsey Conder, can hear and see everything.
Can all the noises interrupt everyday lives? “When the windows are open, you can definitely hear the cheering and the music and the band. Usually, whenever I get home from work, I can always hear the band practicing.” Said Lindsey.
Football games usually have a lot of people, but can all those people affect the nearby area other than noise? “Biggest pain in the butt would have to be all the traffic and the parking, the bigger the game, you’ve got cars up and down the streets and people running across the roads and not really paying attention sometimes,” Lindsey said.
Conclusion
A game’s atmosphere can have a lot to it. It affects so many things despite being just one single event. It is important to have the right contributors to a game’s atmosphere and keep it tamed so it doesn’t affect people who are not involved with the game. It is important to keep it controlled, but also keep it alive and fun.
