When talking about Thanksgiving, the first thing everyone thinks about is Thanksgiving dinner and all the food. Thanksgiving is a holiday of togetherness and warmth. Everyone has different favorites and least favorite Thanksgiving foods, so I asked some people their top 10 Thanksgiving foods to see which ones were the most popular. They mostly had the same food choices, but in different spaces in their top 10 list.
First, I asked Jenna Bales, a senior at Rochester High School.
Mashed potatoes
Rolls
Turkey
Mac n cheese
Ham
Corn
Apple pie
Chocolate pie
Sweet potatoes
Salad
Next, I asked Liliana Marchioro, another senior at Rochester High School.
Corn casserole
Mac n cheese
Turkey
mashed potatoes
Rolls
Pumpkin pie
Green bean casserole
Apple pie
Salad
Devil eggs
Lastly, Claira Leonard, a sophomore at Rochester High School.
Deviled Eggs
Ham
Turkey
Sweet Corn
Mac n Cheese
Rolls
Broccoli Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Pumpkin Pie
Salad
Based on these responses, we can see that everyone has VERY different tastes in the kinds of foods they like. Many factors can play into these choices, like who cooks them, if the food is nostalgic, how often they eat them, etc. All of the options that we looked at had put Turkey at number 3, which is kind of surprising, because that doesn’t happen often.
We all had similarities throughout out list with the same foods like Turkey, Mac n Cheese, Corn, etc. Jenna Bales told me that “Mashed Potatoes are my favorite because my mom has the absolute best recipe for them, and nothing else compares to them.” Later, Liliana Marchioro told me, “Corn Casserole is my favorite because my grandma and I used to always sit and talk while we ate our casserole together, so it will always have a special place in my heart.” These responses felt very whole some to me, and the way that they described why they felt that way felt very authentic.
Picking a top 10 favorite Thanksgiving dinner foods can be very hard because there are so many different options to choose from. Claira Leonard told me, “It was very easy for me to choose my top 5 choices, because they all taste so so good. Choosing my other five wasn’t as easy because I only really eat my top 5 choices.” After seeing their lists, what would be your top 10 Thanksgiving foods?
