As Christmas is on its way, people begin decorating for the perfect Christmas. For some, a classy white Christmas with modern decorations is what they imagine. For others, a cozy, red-and-green-themed house with a warm, homey feel is what they picture. A common debate about which theme is better has been ongoing for years, and people have a lot to say on the subject.
A white Christmas is often seen as a classic laid-back version of the holiday. It’s the version most seen in new movies, holiday cards, and winter pictures. Snow has a big role in this style of decorating. Many students say that snow makes Christmas feel more real. Snow shows cold weather, which is when Christmas was originally meant to fall. People who prefer a white Christmas argue that a cold and snowy atmosphere is necessary for getting them into the holiday spirit. “Winter is my favorite season, and when it’s snowy outside, it makes Christmas feel more real.”, freshman Sophia Mehring said. Mehring thinks that snow makes Christmas feel complete.
There are also fun activities when it comes to snow. For example, building a snowman, sledding, snowball fights, etc. Many families look forward to those bonding activities that keep them in that holiday mood. These traditions make a white Christmas exciting for those who wait all year for the chance to play in the snow during their winter break.
While a white Christmas may look beautiful and modern, sometimes feeling warm by the fireplace in cozy plaid pajamas sounds more intriguing. A red Christmas can also be considered a “tacky” Christmas, meaning old family ornaments, traditional Christmas colors, and a lot more! Some people think that a bright Christmas gives a more jolly impression. Instead of focusing on the modern or aesthetics, you focus on old traditions with your family.
“Christmas is more fun when colorful colors are involved, it brings me back to my childhood.”, freshman Tinley Bialas said. Bialas thinks that Christmas isn’t as real without bright colors and warm family fun.
In addition, lights and decorations have a major role in people’s taste when it comes to Christmas. While some people like white lights and modern ornaments, others like colorful lights with tacky school ornaments that were made in 1st grade. “We decorate my house for a white Christmas, and I think it looks nice and put together,” said freshman Joshya Ayala. He thinks that a modern white light makes a clean look when it comes to decorating for the holidays.
So, which style of Christmas is better? Well, it depends on that person’s personal preference. Some people love that snowy look; it makes them feel classy. Others like the more comforting look, which makes them feel at home when they see family-related decorations. Each version of the holiday has its own style, traditions, and charm. No matter the weather or color, what makes Christmas meaningful is doing what you love with loved ones. Making memories, spending time with family, and celebrating togetherness make everyone merry. Whether you decorate for a white or red Christmas, feeling the holiday spirit is all that matters.
