New Year’s Resolutions: Just Don’t Quit

Take a deeper look into how YOU can not fall off the path of your New Year’s Resolutions.

The new year has come, and with that, some of us might have started making some New Year’s resolutions. These goals can be very challenging to maintain, but with determination and grit, you can achieve them. One person who made some resolutions this year was Toni Hickey. She resolved to be more patient and calm this year. When asked about whether she stays consistent with her resolutions, Hickey said, “I try my best every day.” I think this is an amazing way to look at the road when trying to stay consistent. It is very important to make sure you take it day by day and just try your best for that day. Then, when you wake up the next day, you do the same thing. If you just stack days of consistency, you will be much more successful than someone who works towards their goals only when they feel like it.

Another person who set some resolutions for this year was Michael P. Hickey. He set goals of getting back in the gym and losing some weight. When asked about whether he stays consistent, Hickey said, “Well, I screw up sometimes, but I make sure to get back up and keep attacking my goal.” This is another great way to reach your goals for this year. When you try to reach a goal, you will have failures that come with it. The only way to respond to these failures is how Hickey does. Keep getting up when you fall and attacking the goal in front of you. You can’t let one, two, maybe even twenty failures keep you from achieving your goal. With persistence and maybe even outright stubbornness, you can get up from failure. It’s just a matter of how bad you want what you say you want.

Another great thing about having goals is that they can really change your mindset towards life. By sticking true to yourself and what you said you would accomplish, you start to develop a healthier and more competitive mindset. You start to truly have self-love when you can trust yourself. When you know that you are putting the work in day in and day out to get to these goals, you start to not care what others say, and you start to develop some really good self-talk. When asked how her goals have affected her mindset, Toni Hickey said, “They have made me much more patient and happy at my job and at home.” Hickey seems to be in a much better position now that she has been consistent with her goals for this year.

If you have made some resolutions this year, I encourage you to stay strong with them and not give up. Don’t let failures or bumps in the road throw you off your path. Stay strong and keep pushing, even when it gets hard. And if you haven’t made goals yet for this year. I highly recommend it. Goals will change your life for the better, and you will never regret chasing a goal.
