I’ll never be able to understand why skinny jeans were ever created. They’re an abomination to society and do nothing but take away from potentially fashionable outfits.
Skinny jeans were a huge trend among millennials in the early 2000s; however, they skyrocketed in popularity in the early 2010s. I remember wearing them as a thirteen-year-old. While they were an ‘in’ thing, I always hated them. For starters, they were so uncomfortable. Having denim trap your legs in a tight squeeze was not fun, let alone trying to fit anything in the pockets when it was next to impossible. Skinny jeans also made your shoes look stupid. Either your cankles were showing off to the whole world, or you’d be forced to tuck them over or under your shoes. This just ruined shoes for me, as they are one of my biggest strengths when it comes to clothing.
Another huge fault in the design of skinny jeans was trying to fold them as laundry. The jeans become wrinkled up and are impossible to sort out neatly. The pant legs are usually contorted and stuck in strange ways that require quite the handling to get them figured out. There’s no need to waste time trying to fold skinny jeans when regular or baggy jeans are a million times easier to deal with. Along with the laundry issues, jeans do shrink in the laundry. Skinny jeans are already incredibly tight and difficult to get on, shrinking jeans just makes it impossible to put them on and is a waste of money. If I wanted skinny jeans, I’m just going to shrink them in the dryer rather than waste money on styled skinny jeans.
While my opinions are very strong, I’m not alone in this hatred. Junior Maya Sadler, shared her dislike for skinny jeans. “They are so unnecessarily tight,” Sadler explains, “they leave no room for my food baby and they’re uncomfortable.” Not only do two teenage girls complain, but websites are pointing out some fundamental flaws. According to Glam.com, skinny jeans can cause back pain because of their tightness. If this isn’t enough to gross you out, then skinny jeans have also been found to be the core cause of fungal and yeast infections. Thankfully, the skinny jeans apocalypse has come to a close, and normal jeans are in. Never, EVER, bring back skinny jeans.
