The war in Iran has skyrocketed the price of oil, therefore the gas prices for Americans. The average gas price of normal unleaded gas is up to $4.045 per gallon in Illinois. The average for mid-grade has jumped up to $4.565 per gallon in Illinois. Affordability is seeming farther and farther away. The hardest hit by these gas price increases are the average American citizens. The gas prices have not been this high since the year 2022, which was a symptom of the COVID-19 Pandemic. When asked about the high gas prices, President Trump answered that they will go up, but will go down very soon and very rapidly once military operations are successful in Iran. There are many critics and supporters of President Trump’s statement. One critic of the statement is student David Kates, who said, “The Iran War is in many ways comparable to the Iraq War, same reason, same effects.” One supporter of President Trump’s statement is student Connor Goebel, “The gas prices are a small price to pay to get rid of the Iranian government, and they (gas prices) will go down soon. America has always rooted for the heroic underdogs, and this is exactly what we are doing for Israel in this war.” There are many different opinions on this war, and many see Trump as losing control of the war. Not only do people not support the war in general, but now that US citizens are being affected by gas prices, even more outrage has occurred. Many remain loyal to President Trump and Israel, like Connor Goebel. This war has caused massive division between the American people as people take sides on the topic. The gas prices are rising, and the people are getting restless. Everyone can agree on one thing, though: the gas prices are way too high.c
