Rochester’s girls varsity faced Deactur’s girls varsity in an intense conference match at Rochester this past Saturday.
The first quarter starts eight minutes in with Rochester leading 3-2. Rochester’s No. 20 Mylie Deatherage scores the next point bringing the Rockets up to 5-2. Next, Decatur passes the ball in from the side of the court and Decatur’s No. 10 Zahnya Gibbs scores another shot for their team. There is a foul on Decatur causing them to take out the ball. Rochester’s No. 11 Alaina Stock steals the ball and makes a fast break layup for the Rockets. Decatur comes right back with their No. 15 Inareia Flagg scoring the next shot, making the score 7-6. Then, Rochester’s No. 32 Cami Tinder scores a 3-pointer, as well as Rochester’s No. 35 Delaney Farris making the following shot. Decatur’s No. 13 Casey Jackson brings Decatur back in the game. Decatur’s No. 10 scores a 3-pointer.
The second quarter begins action packed with Rochester’s No. 35 coming back with her own 3-pointer. Rochester’s No. 10 shoots for a layup but gets fouled. She then gets two more shots, in which she makes one and misses the other putting Rochester in the lead with 13-11. Rochester’s No. 32 follows her lead by making a layup of her own. Decatur’s No. 24 Lexi Meyer then raises their score by making another 3-pointer. Decatur’s No. 10 takes the ball from Rochester but gets fouled and misses her shot. She then shoots two free throws, with the first she makes and the second with a miss. Rochester’s No. 23 gets fouled when shooting, causing her to get and make two shots. The first half ends with the Rockets leading 20-16.
The third quarter starts with a foul from Decatur on Rochester’s No. 11. Stock is presented with two shots. She makes the first and misses the second, with Decatur getting the rebound. Rochester’s No. 10 gets fouled again, leaving Gibbs with two more free throws. She makes the first while missing the second. Then Decatur’s No. 10 steals the ball away, leaving Decatur’s No. 24 with a 3-pointer which she makes. Then, Decatur’s No. 10 Gibbs gets fouled on a layup presenting her with free throws; she makes one tying the score to 22-22. Decatur’s No. 12 Shonti Ayres gets fouled and makes one of her free throws putting them in the lead and sinks the other. Decatur then takes the ball out with Rochester getting the rebound. Then there is another foul on Decatur, leaving Rochester with two shots that are both missed. Decatur’s No. 12 Ayres then scores for Decatur again and they are left with a charge on the Rockets. Decatur’s No. 12 makes another shot, with Rochester’s No. 32 making a layup. Rochester’s No. 35 makes another 3-pointer. Rochester’s No. 10 gets fouled in another shot, where she misses one and makes the second. With these shots, Decatur still leads 31-28.
Starting the fourth quarter, Rochester’s No. 10 Offer gets fouled again and gets two free throws, making both. Decatur is still up 31-30. Decatur’s No. 3 Kishawna Jones makes another 3-pointer, putting them up 34-30. Rochester’s No. 10 shoots and makes another shot. Decatur’s team makes another shot, followed by Rochester’s No. 11 making a layup. The score now adds up to 34-36. However, Decatur makes a 3-pointer, as well as two more shots after that. The last time occurs with the score tallying up to 34-43. Decatur’s No. 21 Amerie Stewart makes a shot. Rochesters’ No. 23 comes back with her own shot. Decatur’s No. 21 makes another shot as well. Decatur steals the ball and Decatur’s No. 10 gets a bonus shot, with Decatur making another shot. The last shot of the game is made by Rochester’s No. 32 Cami Tinder making a shot at the buzzer. However, Decatur still wins the game 38-48.
Overall, this was an insanely action packed game full of many great moves made by each team. Rochester No. 10 Taylor Offer stated that she was proud of how her team performed during this game. “ I think my team played well, we had good energy and rebounded well,” stated Offer. “We just have to execute.”
