Never in my life have I hated a certain food more than hotdogs. Everything about them is vile, and just the thought of them makes me want to hide under a rock and never come out. The color for starters is horrendous. That lightish-brown color makes me want to barf, and it just makes them look even less appealing. They also always seem to be moist or wet when you take them out of the packaging. But don’t even get me started on the smell, that’s the worst part. They smell like they’re straight from a processing factory that smells of deceased animals. However, the most disgusting thing about them is what they’re made of. Hotdogs are made from meat trimmings which can include: chicken, beef, or pork. Meat trimmings are typically the parts of meat that are cut off from the main parts of meats that are sold to customers. In other words, it’s leftover meat that’s not very good. Some other ingredients that are included in the mix are cherry powder, natural sheep casing (lamb intestines), and citric acid. There are many others but these are some of the grossest I saw. Many documentaries give people an inside look at how they’re made. One shorter video I recommend watching comes from the YouTube channel ‘How It’s Made.’ This video gives a detailed explanation of what they’re made of and the process that goes into making them.
I know I have some strong opinions, so I decided to get some feedback from others. Junior Cora Haupt is also an avid hotdog hater. “The preservatives in hotdogs make my stomach hurt,” she began, “ and make me nauseous for hours.” This is easy to believe based on some of the ingredients I listed above. However, Haupt had no idea what they were made out of. This only serves as another reason as to why she won’t eat them and why they are unappetizing to her.
I can proudly say that I’ve never eaten a hotdog and will continue to not eat one for the rest of my life.
