Mr.Buckley is the Rochester sports announcer for baseball, basketball, volleyball, and softball he is also the Rochester teacher for World Geo, consumer Ed, and current events. “But in the year of 2023 he became the co-coach for the highschool Scholastic Bowl, but midway through the season he became the head coach because of “unforseen circumstances” Said Mrs.Newton.
The head coach before Mr.Buckley was Mrs.Nordstrom which left in Jannuary, making this Buckley’s 3rd year coaching for the Scholastic Bowl team. Scholastic Bowl is a trivia sport where there are two teams and two team captains. Players buzz in for questions If they’re correct they have a bonus question that the team captain uses the answers from the rest of their team to answer. Two years ago the Rochester highschool Scholastic Bowl team was in the sectionals. The team had two questions away from entering state, Mr.Buckley said “Our goal is to be successful, go to state but also make you guys better people.” “And be better people in society”. In Schoolastic Bowl there are many different subjects ranging from Math, to Science, and even pop culture references.
Even though Mr.Buckley loves scholastic bowl and coaching for the team, Mr.Buckley stated he is very busy, often to where he has no time to himself.“In November this year, I literally don’t have a weekend in November because im driving a bus to either Chicago or Lincoln” said, Mr.Buckley
Since scholastic bowl is an official sport there is a varsity and JV. Even a junior high scholastic bowl that Mrs.Newton coaches for.
When asked which he prefers more, Mr.Buckley said he couldn’t decide between being the coach for Scholastic Bowl or being a sports announcer. Mr.Buckley said himself, “Both are a lot of fun” “Both have their pros and both have their cons. I love both equally”
